Before he was a customer, he was doing what many people do. He went to go a hardware store to purchase a weed killer to control the dandelions on the lawn. Except he made one critical mistake, instead of buying the usual Weed B Gon or Killex, which kills weeds but doesn’t kill grass. Instead, he purchased the product Round Up, which kills everything, and that’s why the lawn looks how it does in the before picture.
As you can see, where he sprayed is where the lawn is dying and in other areas the lawn is still doing good. The customer initially thought that he would need to re sod the lawn and spend thousands of dollars doing that. He thought that there would be no way to turn this around and make the lawn better. He decided to give Yard Dawgs a call and get our recommendation to see if there would be a solution instead of spending thousands on a new lawn.
The team at Yard Dawgs recommended the top tier package for this type of problem, the Great Dane lawn care package. The Great Dane package includes the season long fertilizer, unlimited weed control, spring & fall aerations, spring & fall seeding, super juice, and organic soil conditioner. The is the most premium package but is what’s required to turn the situation around. The main factors are the spring & fall aerations and seedings. That is crucial to help recycle the soil and do a heavy overseed afterwards to make sure it germinates. The team recommended he receives a double pass aeration on both visits as well to make sure the seed germinates, and the lawn has the best chance to recover.
On June 6th, our technician did an application of Spring fertilizer to help stimulate the soil’s nitrogen content and get it back in the growing mode. That service made an improvement but there was still more work to do. On June 15th, the technician performed a super juice application, which helped the soil improve. Two weeks later, on June 23rd the technician performed a double pass aeration and heavy overseed. This was one of the key services that allowed the soil to be rejuvenated and add fresh high quality grass seed. With the detailed watering instructions that were sent in the post service email. He followed that and the results were amazing. He kept us updated with the progress, and since the lawn still wasn’t growing much, he only needed to mow once every few weeks.
Fast forward to end of August, almost two months after the first fertilizer, the technician applied a Summer fertilizer to keep the progress going. This was the application that the lawn needed to keep it growing and for it to have the proper nutrients. The homeowner kept up with the regular watering schedule and the lawn was really starting to make improvements. With the lawn returning to normal, there were some weeds starting to take over the lawn. Since the lawn and weeds have a continuous battle over nutrients, water, and oxygen. It’s extremely important that the lawn receives all the nutrients to make sure it fully recovers. On August 14th, there was an application of weed control to fully eradicate any weeds (this time using the proper weed control product). That product worked magic and the weeds were fully eliminated. By this time, the lawn was growing back, there were no more yellow burn spots, and it was starting to completely fill in. It wasn’t perfect but it was night and day different from when we received the call-in early June.
Fast forward to September 26th, the last service of the season was the fall aeration and overseeding. By this time, the lawn had almost four months of treatments; consisting of fertilizer, weed control, aeration, seeding, super juice and organic soil conditioner. In early June, the lawn was pretty much all dried up from the accidental Round Up spray. At that point, most people would have hired a landscaper for thousands of dollars to come rip up all the old sod, bring in new topsoil and add new sod which would of costs thousands.
The homeowner made the right choice to give a lawn care company a try to see if they could remediate the issue for a fraction of the price. In the after picture taken before the aeration and overseed, you can see that the lawn has fully recovered and looks amazing. Yard Dawgs was very thankful the homeowner trusted us in this service and we are happy we delivered an amazing job.
